Bloganuary 9-23: The most memorable gift

I am not sure of everyone. But to me, a lot of my memorable gifts was not material ones. I love flowers and I am sure everyone received flowers as a gift at a point in time. However, my most memorable gift so far was a small bouquet of flowers on Valentine of 2021 from my former Boss.

It was very special to me since it was the first Valentine gift as well as the last we (all employees) received from him. I have only worked there for 7 years. But my colleague was there for almost 20 years. She said our boss never give out flowers before. Plus, he is not the flower-type neither. When we received the delivery of 10 bouquets for all female employees that day, we thought they delivered to the wrong address. My colleague, she in charged of purchasing, kept insisted to the deliver guy that we did not order this. But he was so sure that he got the correct address, so she opened the envelop with her name on it. And when we saw our boss’s name from the card, it was stunned, a lot of surprises, and very special.

It was the last gift because my boss passed away in August of 2021 due to heart failure. I still keep the envelope that had my name and his name on it to remind of such beautiful moment. It is always nice to know someone remembering you, isn’t it. I would like to think of the moment that he placed the order, he was feeling loved and would like to spread the love to all employees. He is such a hard-working, amazing boss to me. We were solving a lot of challenges during the pandemic together. The company was still able to operate remotely, and help hundred of students completed their training. Because of his work ethic, I am able to put on my resume that I am a Covid-survivor. All the management skills that you learned during that time (time, pressure, stress, uncertainty) are so valuable, and priceless.

Although all the flowers are gone, sometimes I still think about it. Especially when I see the envelop, it always put a happy smile with appreciation about the time I worked with him.
